Myth-Muse-Mantra is inspired by the music and teachings of Layne Redmond. Layne was a multi-talented drummer and musician, spiritual seeker and creative visionary, who was also pasionate about empowering woman. Alongside her music, Layne was a dedicated yoga practitioner, and she attributed her power and endurance to her energy-based practices and rituals.
Layne reminds us that the Titan goddess of remembrance and memory is called MNEMOSYNE. She is the daughter of heaven and earth who birthed the muses of artistic inspiration (music, history, poetry, dance, hymns, astronomy, comedy, tragedy...). On Layne's CD Invoking the Muse she says..."the muses were nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne which means memory..."
So first we have to REMEMBER to be able to birth the arts within ourselves!!!
Myth-Muse-Mantra is all about that awakening into truth and the remembering of who we truly are.
About Frame Drum Kirtan
The Universe is Sound — if you can change the sound of your mental vibrations, you can shift your perception of the world.
The vibrational power of mantra is enhanced through the entrainment of chanting together.
Bhakti Yoga is the yoga of devotion. Bhakti can take many forms, but the easiest path to the heart is through music. Kīrtan is call-and-response chanting or musical dialogue.
The root of kirtan "kīrt" means, "to name, call, recite, repeat, communicate, celebrate, praise, glorify". Mantra is a vibrational formula, which has the power to protect the mind, and act as a vehicle to transport or liberate the mind.
Frame Drum Kirtan expands on the "Music Medicine" framework of Rhythm, Melody, Harmony and Silence, by adding the chanting of Divine Names. Mantras or sacred syllables. This devotional practice combines the healing effects of prayer, community, breath work, mantra repetition, rhythm & entrainment, vocal expression, emotional release, harmony, resonance, improvisation. Without conscious effort, this practice serves to empty the mind of thoughts (silence), fill the heart with joyful gratitude (coherence), and open the inner instrument to spirit (awareness).
"Kirtan is one of the gifts given to us by the yogis and seers of ancient India, a key to unlock the vast mystery world within our hearts. By chanting these Sanskrit mantras and melodies without inhibition or self-judgment, we effortlessly enter a space of deep emotional release, inner connectedness and surrender. There are no beginners or experts in this practice. Kirtan is simply prayer, and with the power of our own voices and emotions we create a bridge that spans the vast ocean of consciousness and infinite love." Jai Uttal
